Technical
seminar on the role of microsilica in sustainable concrete
(Jointly organised with
the CA Division and the AMC)
Date, time & venue
7 September 2016 (Wed); 6:30pm - 8:00pm; HKIE
Programme highlights
The concrete industry in Hong Kong has been "instructed" to produce
environmentally friendly concrete. Concrete that uses less pure portland cement
and more supplementary cementitious materials. The difficulty is that concrete
is used in different things, designed for different purposes, to achieve
different properties that a single across the board directive to use
alternatives to pure OPC is not directly feasible. Concrete needs to be
designed for placing, strength, durability and all of these influence the mix
details. In this seminar, the speaker will discuss these factors and the need
for sustainability and some of the pitfalls of going "too far green"
by utilising SCMs to the best advantage. Numerous examples will be shown to
highlight the different types of applications. This seminar will be conducted
in English with PowerPoint illustrations in English.
