Programme Highlights

Fugro Technical Services Limited (FTS) has been operating for more 40 years and is one of the largest HOKLAS accredited testing laboratories for construction materials in Hong Kong. FTS has a proven track record of success on providing test services to major projects in Hong Kong, such as The New Hong Kong International Airport, Three Runway System, Tsing Ma Bridge, Hong Kong Disneyland, Mass Transit Railway Stations, Public Housing Estates, etc.

FTS provides full range of testing services for construction materials, structural diagnosis, building components, environmental & microbiological testing, micro-material analysis and equipment calibration.

Throughout the visit, the participants can understand testing operations, quality control and their operation management system.

Registration & Enquiries

The visit is free of charge but needs for HK$100 deposit for confirming with attendance. The deposit will be refunded once attendance or forfeit if fail to attend. The maximum of participants is 20. A technical visit to Fugro Testing Laboratory was conducted on 29 May 2021. This visit was co-organized with the Associate Members Committee (AMC). Mr. Tommy Chan, a representative of Fugro, first introduced their organization which starts their business on materials testing in 1983 and has been taken over and owned by Fugro group since 1991. Fugro is an independent testing and certification organization accredited by the Hong Kong Accredited Services (HKAS) for the Hong Kong Laboratory Accredited Scheme (HOKLAS), Hong Kong Certification Body Accreditation Scheme (HKCAS) and Hong Kong Inspection Body Accredited Scheme (HKIAS). Fugro has also been awarded a contract by Hong Kong Airport Authority to operate a licensed laboratory for the third runway project.  

Fugro provides a wide range of testing, inspection and advisory services covering equipment calibration, testing of concrete, steel, soil, asphaltic materials, water, domestic and industrial products as well as environmental and microbiological materials. Fugro also offers certification services and special testing services such as testing for legionnaire disease, ecotoxicity and acoustic testing services, structural diagnosis services and non-destructive test, etc.

After the briefing, we were led to visit various materials laboratories. Fugro’s representatives explained different types of spectrometers used for testing heavy metals, steel chemical composition and organic matters. Automatic data acquisition systems were used to perform concrete compression test, soil triaxial and consolidation tests. The equipment used for testing of deep cement mixes (DCM), water quality, microbiological materials and building components was also explained and demonstrated. The visit ended with a question- and- answer session.
