November 2021 (Monday). Time: 6:30pm -8:00 pm, at Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, 9/F
of the HKIE Headquarters.
Speaker: Mr Arnie
Glausiusz : Tension Control Bolts ltd
Arnie
represents Tension Control Bolts Ltd the designer & manufacturer of the
most efficient High Strength Friction Grip/Pre-loaded bolting system used in
steel construction. Arnie expertise is primarily related to preloaded
assemblies, high strength TCBs, the installation tools ‘shear wrenches’ &
Greenkote® corrosion protection. Arnie’s primary role includes providing
consulting engineers and fabricators with design & technical training and
liaising with many industry and sector groups. Arnie also has a broad range of
construction experience on site with steel erectors – training erectors in best
practices & dealing with challenges on site in bridges, stadia, high rise,
towers, piling, rail & nuclear applications.
Prior to joining TCB Ltd most of Arnie’s engineering & construction
experience related to ‘heavy’ lifting and movement of machinery.
Apart from bolting & engineering matters; Arnie’s interests include the
preservation of heritage structures; and he is the proud owner of a ‘listed’
property built in 1657 and in need of some attention.
Programme Highlights
An overview of Tension Control Bolts covering the key features of a TCB, the installation advantages of TCBs as well as the application of TCBs in bridges and high rise. The lecture will also focus on
the innovative coating Greenkote®
The
presentation is oriented to consulting, temporary works, site, project &
drawing office engineers & technical managers and covers high strength
bolting, the installation tools and our environmentally friendly coating
‘Greenkote®’ which meets the stringent C5 corrosion rating for offshore, marine
& coastal structures.
The
presentation includes a live demonstration ‘hands on’ with plates of steel – we
also show and discuss various applications using with examples of bridges, high
rise, general construction, rail, nuclear, power, wind energy applications as
well as structures, stadia, high rise, gantries, OLE etc.

ReportTechnical seminar /Webinar on the application of high
strength bolts
By Ir LAM Chi-sing
A technical seminar on Tension Control Bolts TCB) was
conducted on 15 November 2021. The speaker introduced that Greenkote® Tension
Control Bolts are used around the world in steel construction. The Greenkote®
TCB’s are the first choice for discerning engineers who demand the highest
standards of bolting integrity. TCBs and the innovative Shear Wrench system are
the lowest cost method for installing preloaded or High Strength Friction Grip
(HSFG) bolts. Guaranteed tension t`ogether with visual inspection removes
the likelihood of operator error and ensures engineers that connections are
tightened in accordance with specifications.
A number of high profile landmark structures have been
used and erected in such TCB in Hong Kong. Including West Kowloon District
Museum - M+, Xiqu Centre, Tamar Government Headquarters, XRL-811B West
Kowloon Terminus Approach Tunnel (South) and SIL (East) Admiralty Station (MTR
Contract 901).
Greenkote is an advanced thermal diffusion coating of
Zn-Al polymetallic composition. The patented process takes basic thermal diffusion
to the next level of quality and durability. The coating is a technically
superior replacement for zinc plating, hot dip galvanizing, mechanical
galvanizing and zinc flake dip-spin. Greenkote delivers exceptional protection
against corrosion and provides superior adhesion, coating uniformity, is hard
wearing and completely eliminates hydrogen embrittlement issues in high
strength fasteners.
The Bolts complied with BS EN 14399-1 & 14399-10.
The speaker also demonstrated the process of fixing TCB by use of shear wrench.
The Greenkote processes is completely eco-friendly and
does not produce any toxics or pollutants, including heavy metals and
Cr6+.Metallurgically bonded, it cannot be easily separated by physical or environmental
forces. In addition, the aluminium-rich inclusions dispersed on the surface
serve to heal any micro fissures, cracks or porosity in the coating, while the
zinc provides a sacrificial barrier against corrosion. The result is a highly
uniform, conformal coating that gives exceptional protection against corrosion
as well as enhanced durability and other performance advantages. The natural
micro-roughness of the Greenkote surface gives it superior adhesion qualities
for topcoats or paints. The speaker also demonstrated additional information on
the Greenkote coating, TCBs installation & inspection methods. The seminar
ended with question-and-answer session.
