Hong Kong SAR has been a center of jewellery trading and exhibition for more than two decades. The financial benefit generated from this sales and trading resulted in a huge amount of revenue and incomes for the Hong Kong community at large. In early 2000s, the Gemmological Association of Hong Kong (GAHK) had published two standards, namely, the Hong Kong Standard Test Methods for Fei Cui (Jadeite Jade) and Diamond. Subsequent to these publications, the Custom & Excise Department set up Laws passed by the HK Legislative Council Enacted on 2 March 2009 for the Cap 362 of the Trade Description Ordinance for two sets of Laws on “Natural Diamond” and “Natural Feicui” in order to institute a legal control framework for the trading of these gemstones. Anyone committed to sale faked Diamond & Feicui will be subject to an offence for imprisonment of 6 months and a fine of half a million dollars.

This talk will describe the history of this development till present moment that a newly published updated and revised HK Feicui test standard was adopted in HK in 2021 for testing and identification. A revised HK Diamond test standard is under revision as well taking into account of the ISO 24016:2020. Feicui is an oriental gemstone beloved by the Chinese people. The Feicui standard development originated in Hong Kong will hopefully migrate to the highest level of international perspective. Establishment of the ISO standards for Feicui gemstone is a milestone for Hong Kong professional jewellers.
