Elvis Au, BBS
Professor Elvis Au, BBS, is the Adjunct Professor of the Department of
Urban Planning and Design and Department of Geography of the University of Hong
Kong, teaching climate change and energy, sustainability, green finance and
strategic planning for undergraduate and master degree students. Professor Au
is also the Adjunct Professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
teaching public policy covering climate change and sustainable finance for
master degree students.
He is the former Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection
Department of the HKSAR Government, the Former President of the International
Association for Impact Assessment, and the Former Chairman of the Environmental
Division of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). He holds MSc(UrbanPlan)
and MSc(Finance) degrees and is a Fellow of both HKIE and Hong Kong Institute of Planners,
with over 37 years of experiences (including 32 years in the Government) in
environmental protection, sustainability and climate and energy, including the
development of building energy legislation, the first Government green bond and
the largest waste to energy facility in Hong Kong.
In particular, Professor Au was the chairman of the HKIE’s Green
Finance Taskforce in 2016-17, leading the Taskforce to produce the first
professional brief by a professional body on green finance in Hong Kong in April
2017. He has been invited to share his insights on green and sustainable
finance at various important fora including UNESCAP and training seminar
organized by Securities and Futures Commission.
Programme Highlights
Prof Elvis Au will discuss the latest development of green and
sustainable finance globally and in Hong Kong. He will present the works of the
Green Finance Task Force set up by the HKIE Environment Division in 2016-17 and
how such works have assisted in and contributed to the development of green and
sustainable finance in Hong Kong from 2017-2022. In particular, Prof Elvis Au
will discuss the challenges and opportunities in the future development of
green and sustainable finance, the important roles engineers could play in
ensuring credible and robust implementation of green and sustainable finance to
achieve the intended outcomes on sustainability and climate change mitigation
and adaptation, and the important skills, knowledge and competencies that
engineers need to acquire to rise to the challenges.
