Objectives

• Organized by the HKIE Materials Division, the Innovative Construction Materials Awards recognize outstanding contributions and achievements in the area of development and invention of innovative materials for building or infrastructure construction.
• Awards will be given to innovations that have made significant improvement in functional performance and favorable impact on sustainability, quality, productivity, cost effectiveness and safety in the construction material industries. 
• This Awards aim at fostering and encouraging continuous innovation across construction materials industries.

Eligibility

• The Awards are open to public and private organizations local and overseas. The material/product of the entry must have been used in Hong Kong.
• The construction material products must have been introduced to the market/trade no more than 48 months preceding the closing date of the event. If the innovation is about to launch or in the final stage of implementing a trial or mock-up, the application must demonstrate its maturity for use i.e. in-situ demonstration, testing and provision of test reports as appropriate.    

Judging Criteria

Each application will be judged for evidence of genuine innovation including but not limited to improvement in functional performance, sustainability, productivity and costs saving, quality, increase of contractor’s scope of work and safety.

Method of Assessment

A selection panel will review all submissions. Detailed assessment of submissions, interviews and site visits will be conducted (around April 2022).

• Ir Prof Chi Sun POON, Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Hong Kong Polytechnic University,
• Ir Humphrey HK HO, Assistant Director, Buildings Department, 
• Ir Dr Julian S H KWAN Assistant Director and Chairman of SCCT, Civil Engineering & Development Department, and
• Ir Daniel HW LEUNG, Assistant Director, Hong Kong Housing Authority

Entry Fee

HK$10,000 for entries being shortlisted, no fee required for initial submission. Fee is non-refundable and will be used to cover prize of the Awards.

Announcement of Results and Prizes

• A maximum of three awards (with money prize) and a maximum of two certificate of merit will be presented to the winners selected by the judging panel.
• Results will be announced in May/June 2022. Award will be presented to winners at the HKIE Materials Division Annual Dinner 2022 (provided that the pandemic situation permits the event to take place). Winners will be invited to present their innovation in the event. 

Submission Guidelines

• Please complete an Application Form downloaded from the HKIE Materials Division Web link and submit a copy of the completed form via email mdicma2019@gmail.com to the Taskforce Innovative Construction Materials Awards 2022, HKIE Materials Division.
• All submissions will be reviewed by the selection panel. Shortlisted entry will be informed to pay an entry fee of HK$10,000.00 to the Honorary Treasurer, HKIE Materials Division (by cheque to “HKIE-Materials Division”).
