HKIE Materials Division Innovative Construction Materials Award 2026

Call for Applications

Deadline for Application: 15 April 2026

Objectives

  • Organized by the HKIE Materials Division, the Innovative Construction Materials Award recognizes outstanding contributions and achievements in the area of development and invention of innovative materials for buildings and/or infrastructures construction.
  • Award will be given to innovations that have made significant improvement in functional performance, and impact on sustainability, quality, productivity, cost effectiveness and safety of the construction material industries.
  • This Award aims at fostering and encouraging continuous innovation across construction materials industries.

Eligibility

  • The Award is open to public and private organizations local and overseas. The material/product of the entry must have been used in Hong Kong.
  • The construction material products must have been introduced to the market/trade within the 48 months preceding the closing date of the event. If the innovation is about to launch or in final stage of implementing a trial or mock-up, the application must demonstrate its maturity for use.

Judging Criteria

Each application will be judged for evidence of genuine innovation including but not limited to improvement in functional performance, sustainability, productivity and costs saving, quality, increase of contractor’s scope of work and safety.

Method of Assessment

A selection panel will review submissions. Detailed assessment of submissions, interviews and/or site visits will be conducted.

  • Ir YEUNG Fei, Jenny, Deputy Head of Geotechnical Engineering Office (Planning and Testing), CEDD,
  • Ir LAI Ho Cheong, Alvin, Assistant Director/New Buildings 2, Buildings Department,
  • Ir Prof C.S. POON, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and
  • Ir WONG Wai Hung, Rayson, Chief Structural Engineer/DC, Housing Department.

Entry Fee

HK$10,000 for entries being shortlisted, no fee required for initial submission. Fee is non-refundable and will be used to cover prizes of the Award.

Announcement of Results and Prizes

  • Three awards (with money prize) and two certificate of merit will be presented to the winners selected by the judging panel.
  • Results will be announced with awards presented in June 2026 at the HKIE Materials Division Annual Dinner 2026.

Winners will be invited to present their innovation in the event.

Submission Guidelines 

  • Please complete an Application Form downloaded from the weblink and submit a copy of the completed form via email mdicma2019@gmail.com to the Taskforce Innovative Construction Materials Award 2026, HKIE Materials Division.
  • All submissions will be reviewed by the selection panel. Shortlisted entry will be informed to pay an entry fee of HK$10,000.00 to the Treasurer, HKIE Materials Division (by cheque to “HKIE-Materials Division”).  For any enquires, please contact Ir Prof Joseph Mak or Ir Corey Ho via email mdicma2019@gmail.com.
